An Illustrated History of ASHRAE
ASHRAE’s 125-year history has been marked by unparalleled contributions to energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, refrigerant properties, equipment, systems, and building performance. Using ASHRAE’s extensive historical archive, this history of the Society has been compiled to highlight significant moments, including the founding of its two predecessor societies—The American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers (ASHVE) and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE)—their merger, and the Society’s continuing evolution as a global organization.
The book has been updated for ASHRAE’s 125th anniversary from the first edition’s original publication during ASHRAE’s Centennial Year in 1994–1995. It includes commentary of important ASHRAE accomplishments, milestones, and award recipients and cites notable papers and articles published by ASHRAE over the course of its history.
The evolution of building technology is revealed in reading the history of ASHRAE, and the story of ASHRAE is the story of how HVAC&R technology has contributed to a healthy and sustainable built environment for all.
